This. This. This. Ditch the MoFo phones, kids. It's criminal what it's stealing from you on the daily.

as a 25 yr old female - approaching one year of sobriety i am shocked at how much sobriety has actually elevated my social life. I smoke etc but no hard drugs or alc and while the longevity of the night may not be the same, the vibe longevity is deffff greater when you're not shit faced. also someone mentioned this but you realize way too many people are boring and cringe (not in the cool way)! elevated my social circle for sure

5% against Irish Exits still seems too high. It is the least intrusive way to let your hosts do their thing and you can still offer them a sincere thank you after the fact. No need to interject yourself into whatever else they might be tending to at the time you decide to bail. 100% Irish Exits!

Some people realllllyyy want to know what everyone in the room is doing at all times. I'm also pro Irish exist after my wedding (don't tell me you're leaving my wedding, just vanish please)

Anti Irish exit here. I think sometimes it's acceptable but sometimes people take it too far. You should always tell the friends you came with and almost always tell the host!

OK, OK so maybe some nuance here - people you came with should probably know so they don't worry but I think vast majority of hosts are cool with a thank you text they can find when convenient or a call the following day

Wallace Shawn in Princess Bride was also the Wallace Shawn of younger Boomer parents (like me) of millennials.

if you'd asked me in my early 20s, i'd probably have said getting fucked up somewhere with hot people who don't respect me. in my late 20s, i think it's about being playful/uninhibited/silly with people i care about......life is strange

Feel like a lot of the discussion around members clubs misses the fact that a main value proposition of these clubs in NYC is the ability to get a last minute reservation at somewhere with a vibe. Particularly for a group.

Strikes me that, despite having been ubiquitous in London for decades, they are actually working in NY now, in an era when instagram has made getting a table at any vaguely trendy NYC restaurant (1) a lot of work and (2) less desirable because of the crowd now in attendance.

I have decided that Eric Adams’ next act should be to open a night club called The Mayor.

This comment : “These clubs tend to be kind of lame, the food and drink is never as good or exciting as an innovative independent restaurant led by a smart young chef, and frankly, who wants to be with the same people all the time anyway? The joy of NY is that you don’t know what kind of characters you’re going to cross paths with on a night out.”

Reminds me of how I feel about public school v private school for kids. Hahaha

For real

We need more lore from the Magnises townhouse back in the day. All the Billy McFarland documentaries seemed to gloss over it. I got one of my all-time favorite reader emails about that place back in the day.
