Emily, through your newsletter I connected with Jack Raines who came by today for a visit and chat. Great example of fostering connections and community.

Jack took regular milk in his latte!

I feel like the Frida team keeps milking this 😂 I hate that it’s just a gimmick. Meanwhile there’s a whole market of people dropping $$$ for actual breast milk https://www.vice.com/en/article/moms-are-making-thousands-selling-breast-milk-to-bodybuilders/

there’s an upcoming snack brand using colostrum so these offerings are only going to get more insane 😂

The salary suggestion is the least absurd of the discussion around the newsletter curator. Their idea that a daily newsletter with content like "eradicating malarial mosquitoes in Cape Verde" might grow an audience at scale is the first problem

“When you start scheduling makeouts and walking to class, your life becomes a series of tasks instead of this boundless thing with endless opportunities for spontaneity.”

i’ve been thinking about this since ending up on WhimsyTikTok -- maximizing magic in daily life, like leaving out watercolors so you’ll actually paint. but it kind of defeats the purpose to me? make joy more accessible, do whatever you need, but there’s something so rigid and impersonal about this level of detail, like extreme calorie counting for the brain.

i'm working on a project about this, mixed with the history of credit card debt in the U.S. and handwriting. it's coming together.

First body builders, now ice cream… I hate the commodification of breast milk. Real or not. “So latch on fast.” Wooof. Also you’ll never convince me there’s an ethical way of taking colostrum from cows. These brands need to chill out.

When I saw the ad all I thought about was the actual breast milk ice cream in London back in 2011, I visited a year after and London was still abuzz about it https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-london-12615353.amp

Breast milk ice cream that just tastes like breast milk and doesn't have any of the nutrients seems to...miss the point

ACK is such an interesting and dramatic microcosm: all the usual issues (inequality, housing, social and eco erosion, constant car crashes) compressed into a really small (and shrinking!) space.

Every time I see a new Skims campaign I think about this piece by Ana Andjelic: https://andjelicaaa.substack.com/p/case-study-skims

Feed me field trip to assess consumer preference. No lines at Prada or Dior and Tory Burch took over a large space that used to belong to Ann Taylor. Teens are asking for free shopping bags from Marni for photos.
