Your Substack is a creation to be very proud of. You're providing information and entertainment to thousands of readers on a daily basis. I think you know that, but it bears saying anyway.
Back in the early 2010s, thanks to the wonders of Twitter, I got to meet some incredible journalists and people across the publication world. We all, funny enough, met for the first time at the IHOP that used to be in Tribeca. Many of those incredible humans were, like me, in their mid-to-late 20s and were still working on their journeys.
Many of them today are either running entire bureaus of organizations, on the C-suites of successful startups, or have built incredible businesses/platforms/etc. of their own.
I'm telling this story because I see a parallel here between them and you, Emily. I think I can speak on behalf of a lot of your readers in that we are in absolute admiration of your work, your drive, and openness to tell every story you choose to.
Your 30's are going to be fire, as a 34-year-old I'm not sure the kids are saying fire anymore but you'll learn you just continue to stop caring and that's where the magic happens. Happy birthday!
You are taking the right steps and soon you’ll know it the past becomes something you are so grateful happened sooner than later. A fan of your work keep it going, you got something good. Hbd! 😎🤘❤️🧿
I find it super interesting that so many on here responding to your post assume you're feeling a certain way about your age and where you are professionally when I read your post as being more so about where you are at being (or becoming) *you*, apart from your professional work. In my experience, turning 30 is a trip and then a few months or years into it you're like - this is the literal best. Until your 40's (or so I'm told), and on and on. Corny as fuck but aging is a privilege because things just get better and better, besides your skin but sounds like you're on it there. I'm a big fan of what you're doing and love how you weave yourself into your work. I really admire your honesty in this post and the non-professional work you're sharing with us. You're doing amazing sweetie, keep going <3 Happy Birthday!!

David, I adore you and I’m so glad we met this week. Thank god for Substack.
Every millennial I know is reclaiming their privacy. It helps that we know what life was like before, during and peak internet that we said no more.
This is so true, it seems like more and more of my friends are receding into digital nothingness and it feels so good.
happy birthday!!! thanks for being a real person & acting like one

Happy birthday, ya real one!!!!!!
This is so generous and kind. I’m crying on metro north with a can of wine in hand.
Just being honest! We'll toast over another glass when you get back. 🎂
Happy early birthday!! Thank you for making me look forward to my mornings. You’re the best ❤️
You guys make ME excited to wake up, and be alive. I’m serious. This whole project (don’t have a better word for it yet) has been life affirming.

I love this newsletter. Please don't change a thing.
Thank you for reading. Only thing that will change is there will be more and it will be better.
You’re one of a kind. Happy happy birthday my friend ❤️❤️❤️
Oh Wellbutrin... *stares into the middle distance with such generosity for my anorexic, manic 29 year old self*
Happy Birthday Emily, we appreciate you ❣️
