It was very interesting to get another side of Derek Thompson. I am new, like many, due to abundance, and made assumptions about where this talk was going, and it was great to see a whole other side of him, compared to other appearances. You two had a natural flow back and forth. Great stuff
“Pursuit of Health” does take up a lot of band width which is inevitable, but what most of us don’t realize is how much time we spend talking about our health. Time wasting and boring. Just get on with it - then you’d have time for happy hour
I have a 15 year old son. If he wasn’t forced to read for school he’d only read short news info. They can’t write anything and I wish schools would bring back cursive.
I worked at GQ 1998-2003 for Art Cooper. We (assistants and young editors) went out every night and tried to get to the gym. No one was over analyzing as much as you guys. We just lived life, wanted to explore, and tried to be healthy and self regulate. I met some of my best friends because of going out and socializing after work and built relationships that became the foundation for my career and life in NYC. I turned 50 last Oct !
The boys might not be reading anymore... but the girls are. Book sales are up and I think it's because the book aesthetic is in (ottesa moshfegh prada collab, dua lipa book club podcast on spotify). The "Lit girl"s are pretending to read / want to be perceived as a reader...even if they are all reading the same viral BookTok romcom of the month (but that's another convo)
Linkup of the weekend

+1 to living the life you want vs. "longevity maxxing" and living para-socially
Post 30s x Covid = saying no is the new yes. Less social, less issues.
81 over 81 and a half eaaassily
So true !! Thanks for bringing this up!
Vesper; interesting choice Mr. Thompson

There’s too much overanalyzing going on and definitely a lack of manners and appreciation.

This was great. Perfect for my commute and now much to discuss at dinner tomorrow night 🙏
