1. Peter seems like an ass

2. David's Bars are gross. Maltitol is a laxative and the rest of the ingredients outside of the protein source are different sugars.

Agree David bars are gross. Would love any lowish calorie protein bar in lieu of David. Or if anyone has any other tips for what the f to eat before a 7am gym sesh when you aren’t the least bit hungry lol :(

Protein bar alternatives: Misfits are good (plant-based protein source) as well as Barebells (collagen + whey)!

Pre-workout combos that will at least get some protein in your system:

- Collagen (I use Vital Farms) + electrolytes

- Protein powder (whey isolate is most bio-available) + Fairlife milk (Fairlife is ultrafiltered, so less sugar and higher protein)

- Fairlife Core Power shakes (love the vanilla, tastes like ice cream to me)

Ahhh thank you! Def need to start taking collagen

I like that it's mono-ingredient and tasteless! Easy to add to whatever!

Re: off season Aspen

Only time I go, but then I also don’t ski. Still bougie but much more laid back and pretty easy to get a table at any restaurant without a lot of planning ahead. Gondolas will run you up the mountain for hiking and there’s a rodeo in Snowmass every weekend for most of the summer if you want to get your cowgirl cosplay on. Honestly, the whole state of Colorado is an excellent summer road trip destination.

Off season travel in general is where it’s at. Snowy empty beach towns in winter are another highly recommended experience. Rent a beach house with a fireplace and watch the snow fall.

I agree about off season timing being a good bet. Unless a group of pretentious trolls arrives at same time as your group…

Love Addison Rae’s career trajectory. She also doesn’t feel like and industry plant (Tate McRae) or another nepo baby (Gracie Abrams) think she is smart to embrace this tumblr-core 2010’s aesthetic as her career inflection point will probably coincide with that revival in the next couple of years.

Possibly! It doesn't seem like consumers are as obsessed with them as press and VC.

Emily,

You might want to connect with Samuel Lopez Barrantes who lives in and knows Paris well. He's a great guy and I think you would like him and his wife.

I was a David lover, then a hater post-formula change, and I stand before everyone now once again as David lover… the Cinnamon Roll got me. Also all of them benefit from being stored in the fridge and eaten cold imho.

What I like about Addison Rae is her taste. It separates her from her peers. Aquamarine/Headphones On sound like Ray of Light/Bedtime Stories era Madonna. She gets it.

The Cinnamon Roll one is good, the Red Velvet was disappointing (but we all know red velvet isn't a flavor, it's a color)

Yeah… it didn’t feel so different from the fudge one. They should do strawberry shortcake or like, maple pancake.

Re: popcast - I’m a long time fan and am so fascinated by all of the different formats they’ve tested in the past 5ish years. Admittedly, I haven’t loved that they’ve started interviewing artists on air in this 3 or 4.0 version. Feels a little too PR stop at the expense of the really good critique that was going on before Popcast deluxe was launched (and then shuttered around when John went on leave to write the Kanye book).

I am intrigued by how and why they’re playing with integrating tik toks of John critiquing songs into the audio episodes now that they’ve gotten rid of popcast deluxe. I wonder if NYT is using it as a testing ground for evolving the way they promote their audio stable and hosts now that it’s much bigger and kind of stagnated

I also want to know how NYT Cooking is pivoting. They're hiring a few people, and just brought on a celeb booker.

NYT pitched some future projects to me on the lifestyle side. my understanding is a big events push and focus on becoming more of a recommendation engine. They’re really bullish on replicating the 100 best books of the 21st century tooling in other categories because of the way it increases time spent on the platform with high income subscribers

re: egg freezing anxiety alleviation - there was a spate of “egg freezing is a SCAM! Women are being MISLED!” articles (at least in the UK) over the past two years.

Interested to hear Air Mail’s take (can anyone give me the gist, it’s paywalled)

Can you link some of them? I don't think it's a scam, per se. But I have heard of women getting fear mongered into doing it when there might not be a "reason" or medical concern that requires it.

it feels kind of like the trend of baby botox and a lot of fear-mongering about aging. I'm in my mid 20s and have had multiple friends who have already done it without any health reason because their employer was footing the bill. All of this feels like another grab at market expansion for PE/VC backed medical companies (Peachy and Kindbody come to mind). This is another good article I've seen on the topic https://www.theverge.com/2018/9/11/17823810/kindbody-startup-fertility-clinic-egg-freezing-millennials-location

I feel like you probably know about Beans On Fire in Bastille/ the 11th arrondissement, but it's a charming little residential coffee place, and bistro Martin around the corner is very yum too and I highly recommend the steak frites.

Re: Addison Rae, a lot of people scoffed at her Item Beauty line but you know what? Her lip quips were some of the most perfect lip oils on the market and I MISS THEM.

David really said cutthroat capitalism but that feels so in line with protein bar bros/protein bar CPG but also really smart to create that forced exclusivity. I'm not as versed in EPG, is it something dupable or is it armed with strong patents?

Gift bag donation or sponsorship of what goes into gift bags would make a good Feed Me post, just saying.
