David bars are cutting off ingredient supply to competitors.
That $750mm valuation is making a lot more sense.
Good morning everyone. I’m going to Paris tonight for a few days, so if you have any suggestions of places to go that I might not have heard of or been to yet let me know. Also taking invites to parties.
Last night I threw a pizza making party with Rothy’s. I have a theory about brand dinners that your experience of the evening is really dependent on where you’re seated. I could be seated with people who know how to ask questions, and you could be seated with people on their phones all night. So when Rothy’s asked me if I wanted to host an event with them, I wanted to make sure it was something that was fun and worth leaving the house for. It’s a bonus if your guests have something to do with their hands… like making pizza.
On the same note, I hate gift bags filled with stuff I’m never going to use. Ours had chocolate from my friends at Raaka, a bottle of Jumbo Time wine, a mini Crown Affair mousse, Perfumehead perfumes, and Sidia hand serum. If we all try a little harder to throw more thoughtful events, we could have an industrywide shift!!!!
Highly recommend Fini’s private room for all your events and Rothy’s flats if you plan on both walking a lot and looking cute this summer. I wore Rothy’s flats to my wedding after party, and have a pair of red flats packed in my suitcase for my trip to Paris this weekend. It’s worth noting that the clogs seemed to be the favorite for everyone at the party last night….
My tomato dress was from Staud.

Taylor Swift bought back all her music rights. She published a hand-written letter on her site today outlining the deal, which now makes her the owner of all her music, films, art, music videos, etc.
In February, a new media venture called Breaker launched. The newsletter business’s goal was to “roil downtown media”. At the time, I described their announcement interview with Semafor as Bret Easton Ellis ChatGPT. But since then, the actually broke some pretty good stories. This week, Oliver Darcy reported that Breaker’s cofounders Lachlan Cartwright and Ravi Somaiya have parted ways. The pair offered a brief statement to Darcy: “Ravi is working on something exciting. Stay tuned! Breaker will continue breaking news and will be cheering him on in his new endeavor.”
A reader sent me a tip that the entire Hims&Hers creative team was laid off yesterday. I reached out to a few employees, and while the whole creative team was not laid off, about 70 people companywide were let go.
James Dolan blesses every single celebrity row seat at Knicks games.
I really enjoyed Popcast’s interview with Addison Rae. She’s had such an impressive trajectory. In the summer of 2021, in the backseat of my friend’s car in Maine, my friend Jack and I made a bet who would be more successful longterm: Charli D’Amelio or Addison Rae. I think it’s safe to say that I have won by better on the latter. In this interview, Rae explains that she had to basically “sell out” earlier in her career as a strategy — get the audience and fame first, and then execute the more niche, artistic vision. Charisma! I’m looking for more of it.
Speaking of pop music, high school senior Romy Mars is releasing more music. “If you want to know how hard it is to listen to you talk, just look down at yourself when I take my clothes off.”
Earlier this week, I wrote about David’s $75mm raise and $750mm valuation. The most interesting part of the story might actually be that David also acquired their ingredient supplier, Epogee.
spoke to David founder Peter Rahal to find out what will happen to other brands that currently use EPG in their products.I’m looking forward to Candace Bushnell’s new piece for New York Magazine about dating over 60. “My TikTok is filled with women talking about dating. And in my particular feed, none of their experiences are good. For the first time ever, I am seeing women admit that heterosexual relationships are not that great for them.”
Do you think egg freezing alleviates some anxiety about your future? “Look, I wouldn’t say I don’t feel empowered. It’s just that empowerment isn’t exactly the primary emotion here. I feel privileged to have this option and pissed that I have to choose it. I don’t want to seem out of touch, because science really came through for me, but I’m sad that science had to come through for me at all.”
Goop is opening a store in Aspen next month. They have several job openings for the new store listed on their site. What’s the vibe in Aspen off-season?
Brandy Melville is selling so much Hamptons-related merch to young women who probably can’t afford to go there this summer.
Fara Homidi is launching a powder-to-cream bronzer. Faran Krentcil interviewed Homidi today about how life has been since getting a nice check from Sandbridge Capital earlier this year.

1. Peter seems like an ass
2. David's Bars are gross. Maltitol is a laxative and the rest of the ingredients outside of the protein source are different sugars.
Re: off season Aspen
Only time I go, but then I also don’t ski. Still bougie but much more laid back and pretty easy to get a table at any restaurant without a lot of planning ahead. Gondolas will run you up the mountain for hiking and there’s a rodeo in Snowmass every weekend for most of the summer if you want to get your cowgirl cosplay on. Honestly, the whole state of Colorado is an excellent summer road trip destination.
