NEWS:

• More than 580k beds sold at Walmart, Wayfair and Overstock.com have been recalled over reports that they break during use. An by use, we’re probably implying amazing sex.

• Tokyo thought 200 women would apply for its new egg-freezing subsidies — more than 1,800 have. More than 7,000 women have registered for information sessions about the new program, which offers up to ¥300,000 ($2,023) toward the costs of egg-freezing, and 1,800 women have applied since October, according to the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. The Japanese government is increasingly concerned by its record-low birthrate, now at 1.3. A rate of 2.1 is considered optimal to keep a population stable. In 2022, the government agreed to reimburse 70% of the costs of in-vitro fertilization (IVF).

• There’s drama at Fishwife. The tinned fish brand that coined the term “hot girls eat tinned fish” (I know) was just on Shark Tank last week, and had pretty incredible results. Co-founder Millstein impressed Lori Greiner and Candice Nelson, receiving $350k in exchange for 6% to 8% of the company. Assuming the terms of the deal didn't change after filming, that values the company at between $4.3 million and $5.9 million. Fast forward to this week, friend-of-the-letter Casey Lewis posted a few TikToks about Fishwife’s other cofounder, Caroline Goldfarb, not being present on the show. Obviously Business Insider got on the case (that place loves a founder split) and published a pretty boring piece about a lawsuit between Millstein and Goldfarb this morning. Grub Street also published a Grub Street Diet with Golfarb this morning, but I’m hearing from people familiar with the newsroom that it was planned to go live today far before this drama began.
