You cannot compete with people who are having more fun than you.
OpenAI acquired TBPN.
Good afternoon, everyone.
I came out of a two-and-a-half hour lunch at Delmonico’s (I think they accidentally extended their Women’s History Month Ladies Lunch special through April) to about 20 texts about my dear friends at TBPN — the daily, live tech show sold to OpenAI for an undisclosed amount. I saw one post on X emphasize the fact that John and Jordi are likable guys, which is where I want to reiterate a personal mantra: You cannot compete with people who are having more fun than you.
The Financial Times reported that the deal was in the “low hundreds of millions of dollars,” but you don’t have to lose sleep over that tonight. Dylan Abruscato, President of TBPN, agreed to do a timely Guest Lecture tomorrow.
If this acquisition has left you speechless, you’re not alone.
May I suggest taking the edge off with the new Corporate Thrillers collection on Criterion? Last night, I watched “Disclosure” starring Michael Douglas and Demi Moore. It features everything you’re thinking about: acquisitions, AI, hot people taking your job, and everyone wearing perfect roomy ‘90s trousers.
