I feel like the reason why sales might be “soft” for these beauty brands is because they are sprouting like weed/vape shops — there are just simply too many of them. It’s too much. I can’t tell the difference between any of them anymore so I’m still sticking to my old Mac eyeliner from 11th grade.

Also have to add I saw a “feedme sounding” response today from the guy on Atlantic ave who runs the toy store that was attacked by Kelly Clarkson — he called it “asymmetrical social warfare” in an interview w NY mag. Love that response. It does sound a bit asymmetrical to me. Why does a celebrity need to take down a local toy shop??

I felt inundated by the Kelly toy store news but I’ll start with the Nymag story

I’m curious about this new beauty brand. We used to have authorities within certain categories: fashion, art, literature, beauty, etc.. It’s why we had brilliant editors who were quasi-celebrities in their own right. Now that everyone can be an “expert”, I’m dubious about everything, especially beauty (notoriously unregulated).

I trust Nina. I bet she’ll pair up with a great formulator/im particularly curious about brushes and tools. What beauty brands do you buy

Bananafish is a great name for a book store.
