Good morning.

My cool shirt last night vs. this morning.

Last night I got dinner at Hotel Chelsea’s Cafe Chelsea. I love hotels and I love Chelsea and the drinks and soft serve were great, but everything else was fine. The rooms were nice. And it was slammed for a Monday… like people couldn’t even get seats at the bar. I just heard the Hotel Chelsea spa is really nice but it’s for guests only, so maybe I’ll work on visiting that soon.

NEWS:

  • Some people now consider deep sleep a status symbol. “I can’t go to a cocktail party without people telling me about their sleep,” Dr. Tony Masri, a sleep doctor and neurologist, told Air Mail. You know, I don’t know about cocktail parties, but my group chats definitely dabble into sleep quality conversations. We debate if melatonin gummies are detrimental or not. We trade thoughts on the viral cherry juice mocktails. My best friend was having a rough week a few months ago so I sent her my favorite sleep mask. I also have always thought it was a bit of a flex when people I know tapped out of parties or didn’t show up to begin with because they needed to “get to bed early.” Last night, I was texting

about sexual wellness startups, and I can confidently say I’d bet a lot more on sleep than sex — with sex, you either orgasm or don’t. With sleep, the spectrum is way wider… falling asleep, staying asleep, how long are you asleep, how deep is it, how is your life while you’re awake, etc.

  • A former Gawker and The Cut writer is opening a bakery. I worked with Dayna Evans during my time at The Cut, and I had the privilege of trying many of her baked goods. Over the past few years, I’ve been following her baking journey in Philadelphia, she’s ridiculously impressive. A few weeks ago, she announced that she’s opening a brick and mortar bakery.

Downtime Bakery on Instagram: “Hi 🙂. We have some big and exciting news to share. After running Downtime *part-time* for two years, we’re taking the leap and opening a physical bakery at 6624 Germantown Ave in Mt. Airy, Philadelphia. We love baking so much and it has been one of the greatest joys of our lives getting to bake bread, bagels, and more for our neighborhood. We’re currently raising money to buy bigger ovens, stronger mixers, and to build out a functional, beautiful, and welcoming space, with the goal of opening in summer of 2024 (!). If you’d like to support the future of Downtime, visit downtimebakery.com/the-bakery (link in bio also) to contribute. And don’t worry: the name isn’t changing. 😉”
