Good morning everyone.

Last night I stopped into Granada Wines on Smith Street before going to dinner at Bedouin Tent (one of many great BYO restaurants on Atlantic). As I was walking out of the wine store, I clocked a palm leaf cross and prayer card above the door. At dinner, I googled when Lent started this year and was surprised to learn the first day is in less than a month. Unlike Punxsutawney Phil, the Catholic calendar doesn’t seem especially concerned with whether spring has actually arrived. It’s supposed to be 20°F next weekend.

Today’s letter includes: Mike Johnson’s dinner order at a London pub, the members fees at that new Brooklyn Heights country club, a scene report from Davos (thanks to the one and only Alex Heath), and BlackRock eggs.

  • Where do we think Donald Trump and Emmanuel Macron are going to dinner in Paris?

  • The Ankler. is doubling down on revenue efforts this year. They hired Lynne Segall as their publisher, a newly-created role at the Hollywood-focused newsletter business. “As publisher, Segall will holistically guide sales and revenue strategy for Ankler Media, including direct advertising, live events, podcasts, video, and the continued growth of its core subscription newsletter business.”

  • Friend of the Letter Ella Devi questioned a seemingly fake Renoir in Melania Trump’s office that is shown in the new trailer for MELANIA. While Renoir painted two versions of this painting, titled “La Loge” – an original, which is exhibited at the Courtauld, and a smaller canvas, which sold at Sotheby’s London in 2008 for $14.6 million – this appears to be a reproduction. Funnily enough, it is not the only fake Renoir Trump owns. I reached out to Julie Brener Davich, Puck’s former art columnist who now writes The Appraisal on Substack, to get her thoughts:
