Good morning everyone. I am back from Caribbean journey. My friends

People vs Algorithms
had me on their podcast yesterday.

Welcome everyone who subscribed over the last few days! Today’s letter is about:

  • Morgan Wallen’s social media team (it’s not nice, I’m sorry)

  • The Official Preppy Handbook-inspired merch that had potential

  • The setlist that will be “played in gay afters for generations”

  • A Pernod Ricard-backed CPG brand is allegedly laying off employees

My favorite song on Cowboy Carter so far is Bodyguard.

NEWS:

  • Deez Linksstarted a pop-up newsletter called Hate Read. In this series, a dozen of our favorite writers from the internet rant and review about stuff they hate—anonymously. Some writers are at their best when they’re being a critic, and a lot of people are SCARED or too WEAK to publicly hate things. Even better than the essays is the heated comment section. “There are wicked judgments festering inside of us all, with nowhere to go, thanks to stan culture and like, editors and also the reality of careerism conducted on a sinking Titanic raft of an industry (the ship is obviously already gone; we’re fighting over the last dinghy now).”

  • Uber offered a 16% off ride offer in honor of the release of Beyonce's album.. but then Lyft fired back.

  • Walgreens booked a steep quarterly loss, reflecting a major writedown on the value of its VillageMD primary-care unit. I stand by my belief that most people want to know their PCP. Walgreens is the majority owner of VillageMD, which has been closing dozens of clinics amid financial challenges. The chain was once seen as a core element of Walgreens's effort to expand into healthcare, but I think most peoples’ experiences with those places is overwhelmingly bad.

  • Pernod Ricard-backed Boisson is laying off employees. Last year, the non-alcoholic retailer received a $5mm bridge investment led by Pernod Ricard’s Convivialite Ventures. They have stores in LA, SF, and New York and I’ll say it: I never understood this business.
