I saw a Note on here the other day about a girl who went shopping ended up telling the shop girl about how her friend had just passed but would have loved the outfits she was trying on and it made me emotional. I sent it to my friend who owns a shop because despite being someone who has a newsletter based on online shopping, I know there is really something so special about creating a space where people feel comfortable enough to share, connect and be. I am so thankful for those spaces, those people, and I hope we never lose that magic
> I think a lot of people are going to try to start positioning themselves as cultural theorists and intellectuals because they don’t want to be seen anymore just as entertainers. People want to prove that they are smart, and the whole guest lecture at Harvard thing doesn’t cut it anymore.
This is fascinating considering the slow decent into Idiocracy (🎥) that appears to be happening all around us.
Are there other trends / things happening online / IRL that point to this?
If this replaces celebrities need to try to achieve political influence (which always ends up as a joke), then I’m all for it. Culture they might understand better. But let’s be honest, they ain’t magically turning into intellectuals because an app called Substack did a new fundraising round.
I love skipping dinner sometimes and just meeting for a nightcap. I also did a Cigar and whiskey tasting as a birthday activity one year and it was really fun. And every one should be in the Feed Me chat - it’s the most interesting place to be online.
When I’m meeting up with certain folks for biz lunches or dinners, I always ask for a good gossip table, and the hosts that get it get it. It not be a “good” table, but it works. You can’t be too careful these days 🤣
I get a visceral reaction whenever I see an unpaid fashion/media intern posting... You should at least be shelling out minimum wage
Hard agree
Completely agree. An unpaid internship in 2025🤢 We don’t do that anymore!
“It is essential that you are super-bright” was a bold move - I hope P.S. is considering revising their listing.
There is an unparalleled beauty in in-person human interaction-based jobs that we will never be able to replicate elsewhere and I am thankful for that
Me too, Nora <3

I saw that Note as well but I can’t take people seriously who post crying selfies (or videos) of themselves
That's fair, I think I see what I need to see in posts lol

And I actually think more specific to Charli is the "process" part of Tatayana's statement which relates more to Rachel Karten's Proof of Reality idea: https://www.milkkarten.net/p/why-ai-will-lead-to-more-proof-of
This "wisdom signaling" post is great -- thx for sharing
Anu is brilliant

The founder of Cowgirl Seahorse just got nominated to the National Cowgirl Hall of Fame
Johnny’s is my favorite bar in New York, especially if you nab the window seat
Very good taste

where did you do the cigar and whisky tasting?
I lived in Kansas City but when I got to L.A I joined the whiskey and cigar club at SeVen Grand DTLA, they have this cool back room you can smoke in.
😂 Yes. If my new intern can ride a horse that’s a huge plus.
you should hire the new hadid sister
Now that’s a brilliant idea! Bet she’s a great rider.
is that what it takes for an internship to be paid these days

Sign that webpages are dead: Byline also just moved to Substack
But I hope webpages are not dead forever. I love my webpage
Next innovation I predict for the Nightcap Industry:
Matcha Martini
Don’t recoil, think about it.
I always wondered what was up with the whole guest lecture at Harvard thing
