Good morning everyone. I’m sorry if anyone get upset at my takes in today’s letter.

Also a correction from yesterday’s letter re: bratty summer — Brat, is Gabriel Smith’s DEBUT novel coming out in June. An earlier version said it was his second novel, which I hallucinated.

NEWS:

  • I am more and more impressed with High Snobiety every month. The magazine’s EIC Willa Bennett interviewed Pamela Anderson for the most recent cover issue. Feed Me might even be mentioned in the story 😉. “We all get roped into, ‘Oh, I want to be successful so I can have this and this, and show people that I’m cool, chic, admired.’ And then we’re all just left with debt and a fancy car. It’s just like chasing age. You’re not going to win. A life is less conclusive than that.”

    Awesome shoot.
  • I’d love to see

    Rachel Karten
traffic numbers this week. She published a brilliant guide to brand social, including how to find clients, calculate rates, write proposals, and set boundaries.

  • Sales of fiction classed as both fantasy and romance totaled $34 million in the UK last year, a significant jump from $18 million in 2022. A few months ago, I started getting pitches from friends of friends for romance media startups. A friend opened Anaïs, a natural wine bar in Boerum Hill that sells books inspired by the life and lifestyle of Anaïs Nin (yes, they also sell early edition feminist erotica). The Ripped Bodice a romance-only bookstore that first opened in LA in 2016, opened in New York a few months ago. And last summer, TikTok was obsessed with The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, a historical romance book that I didn’t expect to see in the hands of every other passenger on the Friday afternoon train to The Hamptons.
