TBPN for cooking - what do you think that would look like? Isn't that kind of what David Chang is doing (really poorly) on Netflix? Mario Batali did it really well - Molto Mario taught me how to cook.
What we are missing is a food personality that knows food/cooking/restaurants but also has an understanding of/passion for culture (art, music, fashion), someone smart enough to ask good questions, connect with people from different backgrounds, and know who to speak to that is actually cool/interesting.
My age bias is poking through here but I would love to see a slightly older person in this role. I know from having a college kid at home that they are really attracted to "the cool oldies".
And before Molto Mario, Jacques Pepin, Martha and Ina taught so many how to cook. I'll add that there is something very good for our collective mental health in watching cooking shows that put process and technique above entertainment. It soothes the brain and boosts confidence. More please.
Food Network 1.0 was solid at this, especially when it overlapped with The Travel Channel. PBS also did such a great job with giving creative control to so many chefs (Julia, Jacques, Bayless, America's Test Kitchen, Ina, etc. etc.).
With ATK acquiring Food52, I could see them maybe being a candidate to build this?
I just find him very, very annoying. I’ve known people like that, and I can’t help but think there is a nefarious side that lurks beneath the happy-go-lucky goofball facade. Perhaps I am a cynic, but I just can’t get beyond it..
Oh man. I understand the hesitancy, but I've done a pretty deep dive into Phil (for that same worry you have) and so far, nothing's come up! He's just a genuine dork.
MTA internship could be awesome if they let the person be creative. Someone I went to college with is head of digital strategy for MBTA and got to do so many fun campaigns, start a podcast, and he can probably ride the T for free.
Your On was my Kith! But then Kith did a Sesame Street collab and I caved and got a splurge hoodie for my toddler lol. And now this! It’s nice to feel surprised and intrigued about business sometimes 😂 ty for your service Feed Me!
I know Mike Conklin has been leading InsideHook for a while - it also could be Cool Material, but my guess is Rotary Digital. https://www.rotarydigital.net/

I think it would work better as a show like the taste, or a bourdain-y thing. Going around a city and streaming w chefs, diners, etc.

I would add Jamie Oliver to that - he taught me so much. Did you ever see my COVID era "show," Brooks Cooks?
Love me some Jaime. Where can I find your COVID debut?
It was on my Instagram, but I archived them all because I plan to bring it back one of these days via my newsletter.

Or maybe an evolution of Somebody Feed Phil??
I cannot watch Phil.
Oh no!! Why not??
(I do commend the team on cataloging everywhere they went on the Phil Rosenthal World site though!)

That said, you should def play around with his site though, the resources are solid. https://www.philrosenthalworld.com/cities-landing
Breakfast with Feed Me, love it
I’m trying to be nimble. Being first is sometimes better than being perfect.

they have a ton of internships across departments, super cool
I’m going to change my resume so it looks like I just graduated, get a broccoli haircut, and send in a cover letter saying “let me cook.”
I’ll write you a letter of rec
An early letter, it’s still light out!!! 😍
I’m changing some things around here

A “well‑known lifestyle and culture brand for men” is probably InsideHook.
that’s what ChatGPT guessed
