Good morning everyone.

It seems like everyone went to Europe quite early this year.

I started a conversation in yesterday’s newsletter about luxury hotels, and everything that’s wrong with the industry. People in the comment section seemed excited to talk about it, and a few friends who work in hospitality took the conversation to Instagram.

Here’s my thing: too often, the people suggesting hotels to me (writers, influencers, magazines) are given comped or heavily discounted stays at the place they’re suggesting. So they’re not making an accurate value assessment of the hotel. I think planning a trip based on photos of someone else’s trip sets you up for so many points of error (and a hotel is only part of this story).

I did a chat a few weeks ago about everyone’s summer plans, but in today’s comment section I’d like to discuss specifically the luxury hospitality industry and how outrageous it’s gotten.

Today’s newsletter includes: Substack’s recent fundraise news, Molly Baz’s recent fundraise news, an America’s Next Top Model reboot, and the brands trying to make “CEO pink” happen.
