I really want to know if the recent viral piece was stolen from another writer and who they are! Need some investigative journalists on this case. Also will plug that I’ve written about this plagiarism/AI issue in a post called “Illusions of Intellect” if anyone is interested :) https://open.substack.com/pub/whatsanu/p/258-illusions-of-intellect?

a few days ago I interviewed maalvika for an article and she said that she intentionally made the title of her essay an “attack on people“ so that they would read it but now she’s being noticed for this… lol

I’m so confused. Is the post about “compression culture” plagiarized or is it that this writer has previously plagiarized and so now we are suspect of the source of this latest essay that has gone viral?

Just as an aside —

The compression culture essay WAS quite interesting! I admit that my substack “q and a today” compresses and aggravates news but it is bc the news environment is so fragmented I have found that people can’t seem to always find fulsome interviews anymore. Just sound bites and clips. My attempt is to provide the full interviews in one daily list.

Finding it fascinating how many people this news cycle are choosing to brush over the 2020 Ty Haney allegations. I say this as a longtime OV fan whose Doing Things hat is a prized possession!

Forget the 2020 stuff, what about her doubling down on Elon Musk being a great guy and visionary all over X and helping train Grok? I once owned 30 pairs of OV leggings—cannot overstate how much I once loved that brand. But I have family in the federal government, I can’t do this Elon worship in 2025.

I wrote about it too! And went viral with it, lol. And it’s been covered briefly in Texas Monthly and The Cut as well—I just think the fashion press has been less eager to pick it up. I’ve tried to pitch stories about Julie O’Rourke’s support of RFK & customer backlash for months without luck. Political/cultural coverage focuses on bigger news & lifestyle coverage seems to have moved on from the values-based shopping trends of 2020.

Why is Elon Musk so overlooked by anyone covering Ty Haney? It’s incredibly disappointing, as his “values” are incredibly inconsistent with the brand’s. And you know, fascism is bad.

Marc Jacobs (the brand) has just never worked for LVMH. I do think they should spin it off and the acquirer should go crazy with branded totes, beauty, and small accessories (anyone else remember those lipstick pens? I died for those in middle school). And let Marc Jacobs the man be an art house auteur and make increasingly more surrealist documentaries.

I feel like there’s really ramping demand for non-polyester workout clothes after all the scary reports on how it impacts women’s health, and no one’s really aggressively going after that opportunity yet. Would love to see new OV take it on.
