Happy Halloween everyone! As a treat I’ll give you a few things. First up, a reminder that this letter started as a place where I published short horror fiction years ago. This story is about a fucked up female founder, this one is about a blood-curdling Tinder date, and this one is about an influencer who gets stuck in her own life.
Next treat, some of my favorite desserts in the city:
Culture for some of the last surviving frozen yogurt, an endangered species in this city. They have an incredible Twitter
The corn ice cream from Sundaes and Cones
The weird raw cakes at LifeThyme
Sofreh rice pudding
The affogato at Altro Paradiso
Taverna Kyclades has a little pudding with cherries on top. It’s not pudding it’s something else but I don’t remember what it’s called. They also give you a flaky pastry for free when you eat there.
I reallllly like McDonalds McFlurries with Reese’s Pieces mixed in
There are more but this should be sufficient for tonight for you guys.
Some news:
The latest Standard Hotel gift shop drop is stuck in 2012. I have faith in The Standard, you all know this. I love the brand, I want to go to their hotels, I mourn the West Hollywood location’s closure once a month. But when I saw this email of gift shop items, I was brought back to freshman year of college at FIT — COMME des FUCKDOWN hats, Alexander McQueen skull scarves, Soho Ski Club, and…. Jeffrey Campbell LITA’s. Don’t get me wrong, these things were culturally important. I still have my club promoter’s number from when I was 17. He’s now an investor at Jefferies and has two kids, and hopefully isn’t wearing Louboutin sneakers anymore. But it is 2023, and the coke coasters just don’t hit like they used to. And we all know the coke doesn’t either.
One thing Maroon 5 is going to do is say yes to a corporate concert. Our boy Ken Griffin threw party for 1,200 Citadel staffers at Disney Tokyo this weekend. During an official anniversary celebration party on Saturday, Griffin tapped Maroon 5 and Calvin Harris for a private performance, the company said.
