Hello everyone. Last night, I got dinner at The Preacher’s Son (I was sitting alone so they sent me fried pimento) after watching the sunset from inside the James Turrell SkySpace at Crystal Bridges. For dessert, I got a $1.30 strawberry ice cream cone from The Spark Cafe and scrolled through photos of the Chanel show in bed. I bought these earrings in the Crystal Bridges gift shop that look like the museum which was designed by Moshe Safdie — Josh and Benny’s great uncle!

Today’s letter includes: Details on Alex Cooper’s ad agency’s first client, a dispatch from New York Film Festival’s surprise screening last night, a Feed Me cashmere poll,

Rachel Seville Tashjian
’s new job, and the prize to
Clare de Boer
’s pie contest is a “Substack residency.”

A message from
J Lee
, Feed Me’s Semi-Anonymous Restaurant Critic and host of Feed Me’s first podcast, Expense Account:

“I’ve been writing for Feed Me for one year now. It’ll be 365 days this Saturday. What a year it’s been. It’s still amazing to me that people read the words that I write or care about my opinion. I never wrote before Emily asked me to start writing to Feed Me, outside of Instagram captions which don’t count. My review of Buddakan a year ago was the first review I ever wrote. It feels like a lifetime ago.

Of course this is Emily’s circus and I’m just the lucky clown who comes in to juggle every once in a while, but I’ll say that writing for all of y’all is a privilege that I don’t take for granted. Reading your comments still gets me every time. I really appreciate the love and support and the fact that you’ll take a few minutes to read my stupid musings about food. Looking forward to a big year with Feed Me. I’m gonna write more and write more consistently. And of course, we’re about to launch the Expense Account podcast, which I’m so excited for you guys to hear. We’ve got some great guests lined up, I think you’ll really like it. The pivot to audio is happening, and so is the pivot to video. The mask’s coming off. You’ll be hearing from me every single week from here on out. Hope you don’t get sick of me.”

  • Luxury has officially eaten itself: Balenciaga is now selling a cotton t-shirt with the word “Luxury” printed across the front (women’s is $750, men’s is $850). I discovered this while scrolling through FWRD last night, where I also found a sweatshirt that reads “Quiet Luxury.” There’s nothing quiet about wearing a piece of clothing that says “quiet luxury.” But, do you know what has happened quietly? Luxury brands raised their prices by 36% between 2020 and 2023, which is nearly double the rate of inflation within that time period.

  • Here at Feed Me HQ, we’re struggling to find high-quality, reasonably-priced cashmere sweaters. Both Cami and I bought J. Crew cashmere sweaters that stretched way too quickly. This is a shame, because I have some vintage J. Crew sweaters that have lasted decades longer than these. And it’s getting cold. We want to know where you guys are getting your cashmere sweaters. Are you all just balling out on The Elder Statesman? Do we need to scour eBay? Please let us know in the comments.

  • The Financial Times has updates on what OpenAI’s physical device will look like. It’s designed to sit at a desk or table (like Alexa) but it can also be carried around by the user. Unlike Alexa, the device will be “always on” rather than being triggered by a word or prompt. Apparently, they’re struggling to decide on the assistant’s “personality.”
