Good morning my wonderful readers.

Some news:

  • Organic infant formula brand Bobbie raised $70m in Series C funding. The funding will be used to acquire Nature's One, an Ohio-based pediatric nutrition company. PowerPlant Partners (who has also invested in Beyond Meat and Thrive Market) led the round with a $35m investment. I revisited this story that Molly Fischer wrote for The New Yorker earlier this year after I saw this news.

  • SPEAKING OF WHICH… the FDA approved a birth control pill to be sold without a prescription for the first time in the United States. Hell yeah. The medication, called Opill, will become the most effective birth control method available over the counter — more effective at preventing pregnancy than condoms, spermicides and other nonprescription methods. Now that this has been approved, I expect a spike in startups and existing brands to launch sexy branded versions of this. Something I learned while working with Julie is that nearly 50% of the pregnancies in the US are unplanned or unintended.
