Good morning everyone. I’ve spent the last few minutes if I should go to pilates in the rain but I think I will. Exciting news: this will be the first edition of Feed Me’s new Hamptons Gossip Column. This will probably make my parents happy because it means I’ll be on Long Island more this summer. If you have anything you’d like to contribute to the next one, or any gossip for that matter that you think I should be looking into, please email emily@readfeedme.com
I also wanted to take a moment to appreciate my weird outfit yesterday made up of these capris (they run big), these shoes, and SOMEONE’S freshly-pressed button up shirt.
NEWS:
Because of fentanyl fueled youth deaths, pediatricians are forced to provide counseling on opioid addiction. And they feel unprepared. Across the country, fentanyl has largely fueled a more than doubling of overdose deaths among children ages 12 to 17 since the start of the pandemic. The surge, experts said, reflects a collision between adolescents’ natural drive to experiment, a decline in teen mental health and an increase in the availability and potency of counterfeit pills that mimic the appearance of prescription medications, making the experimentation that is a hallmark of adolescence more dangerous. A single pill containing fentanyl can be lethal, and those who survive often need comprehensive addiction care that clinicians say isn’t widely available.
And daily marijuana use is outpacing daily drinking in the United States.
I need to study Rudy Giuliani’s packaging design. Since Monday, the former New York City mayor has been calling on his supporters to pre-order $30 bags of coffee from a new company called Rudy Coffee. “Believe me when I say it’s the best coffee you’ll ever try,” Giuliani said in a promotional video on social media. “It’s smooth, rich, chocolatey, and gentle on your stomach.”
I really don’t like the name or packaging for this mouth tape. But I guess even fucked up brands can make $40mm with the help of META ADS.
The Department of Justice is set to call for ticketing giant Live Nation Entertainment to be broken up. The lawsuit is expected to allege that the entertainment conglomerate leveraged its sprawling footprint — as a concert promoter, ticket seller and venue owner — to box out rivals in ways that lessened consumer choice and resulted in rising prices for consumers.
Rhinoplasty and chin liposuction are the most common procedures that brides requested before marrying. You know, I feel like we’re all immune to stories like this today. But in 2016 the entire women’s media world lost their shit over Emily Weiss’s colonics and “no dairy, gluten, sugar, alcohol, coffee, or pretty much any of my other favorite foods” pre-wedding detox. This Times story goes on to say the difference in pre-wedding procedures depends on age brackets. Brides ages 20 to 30 often come in seeking body contouring procedures, such as liposuction and breast alterations. But patients who are marrying later in life — or are the mother of the bride or groom!!! — are seeking major transformations like face-lifts and tummy tucks. And it comes as no surprise that bachelorette parties often include Botox nights now, right? If you’re new here, go read my Bachelorette Party from Hell letter.
Just like those two guys from your hometown, Vanderpump Rules stars Ariana Madix and Katie Maloney opened a sandwich shop. As a friend said in a Bravo group text this morning, “It’s just not the era of Vanderpump anymore.”
Forward Consumer Partners, a new PE firm from a L Catterton and McKinsey alum, is building an interesting portfolio. I read this morning that they acquired a 50% stake in Xochitl, a Texas-based producer of premium tortilla chip and salsa products (every man I’ve ever dated has loved these chips for what it’s worth). This is the second acquisition of 2024 for Forward Consumer Partners. In March, they acquired a majority stake in Virginia-based Firehook Bakery, one of the bougiest cracker brands beloved by apartment dinner party hosts and suburb moms alike. Matt Leeds, Founder and Managing Partner, is also the Co-Founder and Chairman of Via Carota Craft Cocktails, a ready-to-serve cocktail brand inspired by the beloved West Village restaurant. So they’re obviously also in the PE’s portfolio.
