I was incredibly lucky enough to go to their temporary-ish location a few times, and STILL think about their breakfast cacio e pepe. I lived on 20th and 3rd for 7 years and because I made friends with the front staff, they would let me get a coffee and pastry from Maialino and sit in the park every now and then.
Also useful to get into Jade Bar and Rose Bar! (Man, it had one of most beautiful pool tables in the city.)
That Redbury location was barely a fraction of the quality of the original. The setting on the park with that big window on the corner, incredible wine selection by the glass if you were solo. Maialino was the best part of GPH. I stayed at the hotel a few times simply because Maialino was downstairs
I'm locked in on Romy Mars. Have no idea what direction she's going to go but I'm patiently sat for the show.
+1 for eating alone, It'll change you once you make it a reoccurring practice. I use it as a dedicated time block to do a leisurely activity I would normally make an excuse for (like reading a real book lolzzz). Sugarfish bar is daaaa bestttt for it.
“When I was in college, I always hoped one of these random guys in a suit would take me to Rose Bar, but instead I got Wilfie & Nell. I turned out fine.” I hope you get to dine alone at Rose Bar when it reopens, because that’s a memorable experience.
I met an investment banker at House of Yes in 2018 and we had our first date at Rose Bar! He was mediocre, but I can’t lie, the location made the date - it was electric. (I’m giddy about this reopening)
Londoner here! Cute/ good value: Zetter Townhouse, The Portobello, The Laslett. Middle tier: Dean St Townhouse, Soho Hotel, Redchurch Townhouse. Super fancy/ iconic: Claridges (the best) The Dorchester, The Connaught, Ham Yard. (The Standard, the Rosewood and the Edition are fine, but you could be anywhere)
Can vouch for The Laslett. Most rooms are teeny tiny but it's a vibe. Super comfy. Also saw Stella McCartney there once.
For a more Americanized experience I like to stay at the 1hotel in Mayfair. The location is kind of insufferable BUT very convenient, and you'll be very very comfortable there.
I had such a blast dining solo in London last Summer. Waiters were friendly and chatty, and being alone made it so easy to be seated. I wandered into BRAT without a res and sat at the bar, eating sardines and drawing... heavenly!
I had more fun at Wilfie & Nell than I ever did at rose bar! And for some reason girlfriends always wanted to hang at the latter; the men who took me to both places were in finance 🤔
I miss Maialino. I really hope it comes back. Meyer's also had terrible bad luck with locations...
Ugh me too they had the best desserts

Where was their temp location?
At the Redbury Hotel, known as Maialino (vicino). They closed down because the hotel got turned into a migrant shelter.

So excited GPH is coming back! All good things, except the members club (Not …… necessary)
Rose Bar defined my going out life pre-Covid and my friends & I cannot wait for its return 👀🪩
RELOADING
SAME.

Oh wow, can’t wait to see how MCR brings back that old-school Gramercy charm! Love a good hotel reno by people who actually know what they’re doing.
I’m excited, fingers crossed we’re back in action by Christmas

ME TOO it’s so exciting

Love the Soane museum! It gives you a feeling of a real connection with two hundred years ago. He seems like a Dickens character.
The work he commissioned of his dog was hilarious
Do you have recs on where to stay in London? Traveling there in September and overwhelmed with the options
are you going w friends? I usually stay at the standard if I’m w friends, super central and big lobby etc
going w my husband!

Sir John Soane’s Museum is the weirdest and absolute coolest ✨
So strange, I love collectors

I was going to go there but I didn’t have time! It was a very nice experience and idk why I don’t do it more at home
Same, I'd forgotten... dining alone is chic!!
