Hello from my parent’s house on Long Island.
Last night I got to speak with Laura Reilly, the writer behind Magasin, “a (usually) bi-weekly fashion shopping digest.” Everything on Laura’s newsletter is shoppable. It’s really a brilliant form, because she adds context to the sales, collaborations, and new campaigns that she writes about.
In an interview earlier this year, Laura explained, “Magasin has two sends a week. The first one keeps you up-to-date on new launches and sales in the fashion space. In the second, I talk to extremely well-dressed people, and ask about what they are buying. It’s exciting to have people let you into their closets and shopping habits in a way that feels so personal and private. I mean, everyone wants to have great style, but you don’t really hear about how people are acquiring things, so I like to get into the granular with them.”
It’s hard to explain how satisfying it is to scroll through Magasin if you haven’t experienced opening it regularly at 7am in bed while you’re drinking coffee, just waiting to rack up some credit card bills. She’s publishing every day for Black Friday from Tuesday to Tuesday, which I was impressed by. Hope you like our conversation about what everyone will be wearing at holiday parties this year (last year it was bows and crushed velvet, this year it is not), how much she earns on each newsletter, and how women in their early 20’s are shopping for clothes.
