Graydon Carter's new restaurant.
A "New York-type" restaurant that is not in New York.
Good afternoon, everyone.
It feels good to be back in New York, with a desk full of magazines and sealing wax and ribbons for who knows what.
Today’s newsletter includes: Jacqueline Novak on the return of Poog, Yolanda Edwards on why YOLO Journal has launched a new travel vertical for families, thermometer-tampering to win weather bets on Polymarket, and Graydon Carter’s new hospitality project.

Poog, a podcast hosted by Jacqueline Novak and Kate Berlant, is back. In October 2024, Poog changed its name to “Berlant and Novak” due to naming rights issues with its parent company, Big Money Players (Will Ferrell’s iHeart network). Last week, they announced that they reclaimed the podcast name. Jacqueline Novak texted me: “We chose sovereignty over continuity and bet on ourselves when we started a new feed as Berlant & Novak. We said Poog was Berlant and Novak the whole time. And it was. What’s in a name, etc. Our hag listeners came with us. It was great. Now, some fifteen months later, the fates have rewarded us for our faith and we were able to get back the old name, feed, and distro rights. So it is great to be Poog again, this time as a truly independent podcast. With our full back catalogue. The whole story.” I sense we will get more from the Poog empire (including those Conner Ives shirts) later this year.
