Feed Me is influencing the mayoral race.
+ summer internships at nightclubs and newsletter startups.
It’s Friday, finally. This morning I tried a new bakery in my neighborhood called Miolin. This is the same bakery referenced in the rhubarb news item earlier this week. They don’t have specialty coffee, just really great brewed coffee. Amazing what a small distinction does that to line length (it keeps them short). I got a Kouign-amann which was hot out of the oven, so I was instructed not to “bite into it like an apple.” Such a generous and specific direction that I absolutely did not take. It was indeed hot, gently fell apart in my hands, and I will be ordering it again.
Today’s letter includes: Montauk hospitality nepo babies, the newsletter internship I’d take this summer if I was in college (nope, it doesn’t involve Substack), why one founder thinks being a mom is “harder than being a girlboss”, how Feed Me has already affected the mayoral race, and the $21 sundae I’m considering blowing my hair out for this weekend.
Guest Lecture: Joe Weisenthal
Guest Lecture is a Feed Me series that captures the spirit of that (sometimes unhinged) guest lecturer who would come into your class on a Friday, drops more knowledge than you’ve heard all year, and then leaves forever. For our next Guest Lecture, we’ll be talking to Joe Weisenthal. Joe is the co-host of Bloomberg's Odd Lots podcast, which covers the most interesting topics in finance, economics, business, and markets. He has also been an editor, TV host, and pretty much everything else in the world of digital media.
Paid readers can ask him anything they want this weekend in the Feed Me chat. Make sure to drop in a question about his rock band and favorite midtown restaurants.
Jean’s: Jean’s is hiring summer interns in their events department, must have a high aptitude for throwing parties and making the room with invites. Also hiring a business development intern who can work on new projects and partnerships, excel, deck making, running calls. They’re hiring in both New York and “Europe” — I guess you’ll need to apply to get more specificity. Apply at jobs@jeans.nyc, subject line “EMILY TAUGHT ME.”
