Does anyone in Montauk speak French?
Bagatelle brings "the French Joie de Vivre" to the Hamptons.
Good morning everyone. Last night I went to dinner with a group of media people. Among them, Brock from New York magazine, Rachel from The Washington Post, Molly Jong-Fast, and Jessica Testa who wrote the Times profile about me. I sat across from Alex Vadukul, and next to Carson Griffith and Ariana Squillacciotti.
The dinner was off-the-record but, my review of Opto is not: I’ve never said the words, “I want to go back for their Taglioni Limone” until this morning, and I’m inspired by the use of sesame oil in their little gem anchovy dressing. Also, sick private dining room. Apparently Tory Burch also had a party there last week.
“New ‘executives club’ opening at 175 spring street in Soho at the old Metropolitan Lumber and Hardware store.” This morning, I called a few Soho real estate friends about this spot and it did indeed sell for about $21mm last March. The L-shaped building is pretty cool – it was originally a power plant, built in 1901 to run New York’s first subway. When I asked a restaurant friend what an executives club is, he said, “I heard it’s literally going to be a tiny members’ club.” I’ll say it: the password-protected site looks cheap.
“Word on the Montauk streets is that Bagatelle will be running FB at Gosman’s which billionaire Stephen Deckoff bought.” After some sleuthing, it sounds like Bagatelle isn’t taking over the entire dock, but the restaurant that was most recently Swallow. The Instagram bio for the new Bagatelle location says they will be open by April, but they only have seven followers (including two members of the Gosman family).
Feed Me’s new European assistant — everyone say “Hi !” — did some research on the current global state of Bagatelle:
St Tropez, the ‘classic’ - Basically your staple St Tropez beach club, with all the issues that come with a St Tropez beach club, but slightly worse. Since the arsony scandal (it burned down under ‘mysterious conditions’ - read: mafia), it’s gone really downhill. Most people agree it used to be the best one in town, but they had to change locations with the new real estate laws that forced all the beach clubs further inland. Because of that it took a heavy hit, whether that be service, food or crowd. The music can be good, but it’s definitely among the less good locations for the area/compared to neighboring clubs (still better than Nikki Beach though). 6/10 (used to be a 9.5/10)
A friend got made fun of at a bar by an American that said Bagatelle was considered trashy in the US.
