I probably won’t be the only person re-listening to Dolly Parton’s America this week. All of the posts I read about her last night painted such an angelic, political, strong image of her life and work. And she arrived at her convictions through such a Golden Rule type of kindness.
And RIP Tim Curry. I’m due for a Muppet Treasure Island re-watch.

NYT culture reporter (actors, directors, movies, festivals, awards) Kyle Buchanan is leaving the Times to start a new video podcast series. I always enjoyed his Oscars coverage. It feels like we’re going to be seeing lots of this - print journalists moving into exclusively audio-video spaces. It’s interesting that one of the things Buchanan mentions in his comments is that subjects want to have longer conversations - a thing that can obviously happen in audio/video and even some magazines still, but just can’t happen in a newspaper profile. I wonder if Buchanan expressed a desire to do this show at the Times, à la Popcast, and was turned down or if it was always a project that needed to be outside the Times.
