Curious if ATE has thoughts on this season of the Rehearsal. It has been a bit all over the place but I’ve largely enjoyed watching. I’m flying over Memorial Day weekend and will be tormenting myself over air traffic control, pilot communications, and real ID nightmares…
I have A Lot Of Thoughts about Liz Lambert/MML and they are extremely salty in the way only someone who feels betrayed by what they're doing to El Cosmico can be.
The original site is closing down for good in July, and then reopening on the north side of town in 2027 as a much larger, much more upscale resort with a spa and a pool and restaurants and, uh, million dollar 3D construction vacation homes.
Those of us who have been going since it opened (I went to every Trans-Pecos Festival between 2012 and 2019) are not super happy about the whole thing.
That's so grim I'm sorry! I only stayed there once in 2019 but it was clear they had a magical kind of thing going that would be lost with any kind of meddling. I've stayed at and loved several of Liz's hotels now but El Cosmico was really a step beyond.
I just don't have high hopes that the secret sauce can be recreated. The new site is maybe more picturesque because it will be facing out to the plateau and the Davis Mountains but so much of what makes/made the place work is how it grew organically and it never felt like it was trying too hard. I also feel like it's going to feel more distinct and separated from the town and that's a bummer, too.
The first time I flew into LGA after the reno, I thought I was in the wrong airport. I'm a Coloradan these days--DIA is great, and will be even better if they ever finish their decades-long construction project.
The domestic couple summer jobs post is an insane requirement - who is this couple who can housekeep + handyman but also be ready to be the chef and also do boat stuff? While living above a garage? Better be some sick pay when they find these anomalies.
Can attest. I rode the carousel this weekend (for the first time) with my nephew, who threw his own tantrum because he didn't like the ride and wanted to get off before it started after my brother-in-law had already purchased an entire book of tickets. I recommend doing a test run!
From someone that was supposed to fly to LGA on May 5th and wasn’t able to up until May 16th due to flight delays and flight cancellations that resulted into “giving it a few days” before booking a new flight that was also delayed multiple times - just be prepared for another few weeks of delays and uncertain travel even if you are traveling to/from LGA or JFK.
The price of Floaties on eBay always makes me laugh. The second those shoes got wet they were a safety hazard (and yet I needed to have them in both baby blue and pink)
I feel like I am the only person in the world who likes (well, liked) flying in to Newark. My former employer's offices are in Hudson Square, I live one block away from the Blue Line in Chicago, and Newark is a United hub so there's a flight like every 45 minutes.
there's no shot that Todd ends up doing any interviews at like, Florida Ave Grille, Smokey's, any of the amazing Ethiopian restaurants, or any other *real*/native Washingtonian places, right? these are all going to be like him and Pete Buttigieg at Le Diplomate or Wolf Blitzer at Clyde's?
First week will be Le Diplomate, 2nd week Osteria Mozza, 3rd week back to Le Diplomate because they'll be like the usual lemmings in DC thinking they're at the "hot spot" and run out of ideas then they'll go wherever Stephen Starr's PR team tells them
I’d love to fly to LGA, but I’m loyal to United and the perimeter rule means no direct flights to/from SFO 😭 I’m still not sold on giving up a nonstop flight, but maybe I will be by the time my flight rolls around…
I have been WAITING for the Tory Burch miller sandals to come back. Those were a true status symbol in high school in suburban Florida.

having the same thought!
ATE - don't you feel a bit ODD not having everyone sing happy 100th birthday to DELTA???? https://www.delta.com/us/en/about-delta/centennial/overview

I'm dying to know what's going on with El Cosmico

LGA is my favorite major city airport in the country post reno! And hot take for some people, I actually like DEN
And how about that FOUNTAIN

Pay is going to be insane, guaranteed. Look at the other jobs on that site!
Carousel operator in Central Park is the most literary summer job I’ve ever heard of
The amount of tantrums this person will witness…

The poor Marlton catching strays!
The new restaurant is going to be chic afffff
Very ready for F1 to be Top Gun: Maverick with cars
Welcome back ATE. There is much to discuss and I’m glad you started off with the shitshow that is air traffic control. WSJ did a good pod in December about the cluster that was relocating the Long Island team to outside Philly and was a good preview of the issues that have plagued us this spring (https://www.wsj.com/podcasts/the-journal/your-flight-delay-is-probably-new-york-fault/C4B981E9-2CF1-4017-A32F-793A237CCB3D) Additionally, a golf podcast offshoot that isn’t about golf did a good interview with a pilot / former ATC that is just interesting anecdotal conversations about flying - it’s an entertaining one (ep 333 https://nolayingup.com/podcasts/trap-draw-podcast)
That was a great piece.

My husband is currently in JFK w a 2 hour delay (so far)
airports from most to least delayed EWR < LGA < JFK (even before the recent meltdowns)
😭😭 hopefully he’s at least in the airport and not waiting inside the airplane (my biggest nightmare)
The price of Floaties on eBay always makes me laugh. The second those shoes got wet they were a safety hazard (and yet I needed to have them in both baby blue and pink)
Why are these $300 https://www.ebay.com/itm/266781681332
god damn

we all loved newark before this bullshit
Dying to know the sources for the Zohran profile.

Let’s put the pressure on him
