Can Derek Blasberg print out his newsletter?

I'd read it in the pedicure chair religiously.

Hello everyone.

Do you have plans on Friday? I do. I’m going to Long Island to carve a pumpkin and catch my parents up on the last six weeks of my life. If you do not have plans, you should go to the movies.

I have a spare New York Film Festival ticket to the premiere of Is This Thing On? on Friday night at 9pm. If you haven’t seen a movie at Alice Tully Hall, you’re in for a treat. Plus: Divorce! The New York comedy scene! Bradley Cooper! A crisp 50-degree night! What more could you ask for?

To get the ticket 🎟️ , respond to this email with a movie suggestion for me, and why you think I should watch it.

Today’s newsletter includes: The Standard WeHo’s new owner, Fini Pizza is opening a location in Utah before Manhattan, and a Vanity Fair writer leaves the magazine for Substack.

Guest Lecture: Kristina O’Neill and Laura Brown

For our next Guest Lecture, we’re interviewing Kristina O’Neill (former editor-in-chief of WSJ Magazine) and Laura Brown (former editor-in-chief of InStyle) about their new book, All the Cool Girls Get Fired.

Paid readers can ask them anything, including questions about the experience of getting fired publicly, the strength of owning it, and how to navigate this crazy tough time in the employment market (especially for writers!!!).

This week on Feed Me’s Job Board: Creative Director at David, PR Coordinator at Communité, and more.

Feed Me Job Board

We asked a simple question in yesterday’s letter: where are you buying reasonably-priced, high-quality cashmere sweaters? I was thrilled by how the comments section immediately started to fill up with all of your recommendations, so I decided to compile them below. I have a disease where I don’t trust affiliate-linked recs (debate this as you wish), so it was fun to hear these responses from people who had nothing to gain.

First of all, you guys overwhelmingly trust secondhand Scottish and Italian cashmere over new brands (

Liana Satenstein
linked her explainer here about why ‘90s cashmere is actually better). Many of you are scouring eBay, Poshmark, Vestiaire, and The RealReal — but the local thrift store on Long Island also got a mention, as did flea markets in Florence. When buying new, a handful of brands earned repeated praise. Amongst them: John Smedley, Eric Bompard, Guest in Residence, Lisa Yang, Uniqlo, and Margaret Howell.

Brand leaderboard (in order of most-recommended):

Uniqlo

  • “I have a Uniqlo cashmere sweater that I got on sale for €50(!!!) like 4-5 years ago. So far it has kept its shape well. I get it dry cleaned every now and then, and only wear it during autumn-winter.” – Hajni

  • “Have a sweater from Uniqlo that’s about five years old and going strong.” – Julia

Pringle of Scotland

  • “Vintage Pringle on eBay or Etsy… So densely woven, doesn’t stretch, zero pilling and a hand wash cycle in the machine makes for an easy clean. Also the perfect v-neck silhouette. I originally bought one for my husband but promptly stole it for myself - a true boyfriend sweater!” – Katie
