Can confirm re the figs. For my next Substack issue, I talked to the head gardener at the Culinary Institute of America who said all the figs in the Napa area are besieged with Fig Flies and basically toast but the ones at the CIA garden seem to be miraculously intact. Weirdly, in Ojai, CA we seem to be doing ok with them too —lots of them at the farmers’ market and on local menus right now. Just had insane chocolate mousse with figs at Rory’s Place in town.
The founder of Argent (Sali Christeson) talked a bit about the logistics of the photo shoot on the latest ep of her podcast (Work Friends), in which she is interviewed by Monica Padman.
She also tells the story of her parents’ meet cute which is incredible.
Seeing how many really big celebrities shill for Polymarket and Kalshi makes me want to see a massive public backlash. Betting is going to destroy so much.
re: Columbia reopening the Gates - Jennifer Mnoochin, the incoming (and new) President, has consistently mentioned both restoring the confidence across students and administration and having the open campus back as among the top of her to-do list.
