An interview with Ghia's Mélanie Masarin 🍸
She may be in Tokyo, but she still answered my call this morning!
Good morning everyone. Apologies for the late letter today - I had a meeting in the city and then I was being sooooo Kendall Roy in the car home trying to get this together as fast I could, I promise it’s worth the wait.
News:
The first thing we need to discuss today is my credit card. Is the Apple Credit card good? Not really. Is it my credit card? Yes. Today, Apple announced their ending their partnership with Goldman Sachs. This is bad because I love slamming that hunk of metal on the table at business meetings and dinners, and I need to know what it’s future holds. Apple sent a proposal to Goldman to exit from the contract in the next roughly 12 to 15 months, according to people briefed on the matter. The exit would cover their entire consumer partnership, including the credit card the companies launched in 2019 and the savings account rolled out this year. “The bank this month told employees who work on its credit-card partnerships that they would be eligible for pay equal to one year of their compensation if their jobs are eliminated.” I wouldn’t love that email if I got it lol.
Amancio Ortega isn’t one of the richest men in the world for nothing. Zara’s been doing a pretty good job this season, and the most recent reason I say that is because of how similar their marketing team seems to have responded to Kylie Jenner’s Khy’s. But I also really liked that whole dirt bike campaign I wrote about the other day.

Zara has also engaged some pretty popular models recently, including Gabbriette, Amelia Gray, and Irina Shayk. Meanwhile, tomorrow Zara is launching Zara HAIR!!! You can find out more tomorrow but… Zara Hair is a boxed set including a gold gel (fun!), a gold glitter spray (fun!!), a gold bobby pin and a gold comb that will retail for $49.90 in stores and online. Guido Palau, who designed the products, said they are the first of many. You know…. a lot of startups are making chic conditioner and brushes and haircare products, but not enough brands are making haircarelesness products — glitter, dye, sparkly holiday shit shit that I LOVE to impulsively use hours before a party. Sales for hair products are on the rise — especially in the higher-end market. Circana data for the third quarter indicates a trade-up to prestige, as hair care unit sales in the mass market begin to wane.
Ghia, everyone’s favorite nonalcoholic aperitif, launched their first non-bitter product today: Berry. I was actually sent this last week and I posted an Instagram story about how much I loved it (the orange and clove make it very special for the holidays!!!) but it was under embargo and I fucked up. THAT BEING SAID, Ghia founder and CEO Mélanie Masarin still agreed to do an exclusive interview with Feed Me today. She’s in Japan (go follow her on Instagram to see her ridiculously fabulous trip). We talked about how the new product plays well with wine lovers, what she thinks of all those Ghia-drinker memes, and bottle vs. can sales:
