Good morning everyone. I hope those of you in New York can appreciate the leaves outside your apartments this week before they fall, and the in-between weather when you can have a cigarette in a big sweater and not have your fingers freeze off, and spend too much money at the farmer’s market (but it’s okay), or fall in love all over again, or maybe consider your relationship with personal faith and your phone as things feel heavy.
Some news:
I haven’t seen this format of olive oil packaging before. I think I’ve only seen it with boxed wine (like Ami Ami, my beloved). Grove and Vine is the olive oil that Superiority Burger, Morgenstern’s and more use. I first met co-founder Nicholas Coleman when he worked at Eataly like ten years ago (fun fact, they didn’t card me at a wine class when I was 20 💅 ), so proud that the CPG moves are moving.
Alriggghty, A24 is starting to make sense to me — last March, Stripes paid $225 million for less than 10% of the production company. This news was circulated out in tandem with the news that A24 is aiming to make “more commercial” films. This move is part of a larger strategy of “deemphasizing the traditional character/auteur-driven dramas” that have been the beloved indie studio’s bread and butter since its founding in 2012. I’m sure the people who accepted the cash knew this would be the case, but it’s still a bummer. Been saying this to everyone in my life — chill with the VC checks.
