Good afternoon, everyone.
Last night I went to a parody play of Aaron Sorkin’s The Social Network called Dammit, Mark! that a group of Morning Brew employees put on at Caveat. It was wacky and well-produced and made me deeply miss the camaraderie and inside jokes that office coworkers provide. One big target of Morning Brew’s ridicule was Aaron Sorkin, and his skill (or lack thereof) in writing the movie’s female characters and sexy scenes with his signature weapons-grade cringe. Morning Brew really seems to have cast the perfect group of employees for a media business in 2026 — writers and video creators and producers who have magnetic personalities that make readers/viewers excited when a new piece of content (or a play) drops. I was excited to see some Feed Me readers there who found out about the play from one of our recent event roundups. And I think Caveat sells the most affordable Ghia spritz in the city ($8).
Afterwards, I stopped by Toriya (which is open until midnight for future reference) for a quick bowl of udon and a yakitori skewer. (It was a night of skewers - first Aaron Sorkin, then chicken thigh.) I walked downtown past Seward Park where teenagers played ping-pong with seniors, while groups of sweaty couples who looked like they were on first dates sat on the benches, watching the game and talking with their hands. One man sang karaoke into a machine. I ended up at my friend Alex’s birthday party at Cellar 36, where I bumped into some old friends I hadn’t seen all summer. Everyone was pouring each other glasses of wine from magnum bottles, half listening to stories about vacation and fall plans and half observing all of New York’s characters who started snapping back into place in the city. On a walk to get coffee at Daytime this morning, I noticed how different the morning light looked than a few weeks ago.
